Objective of the project
The objectives of the project is to develop a SDNP website, which can support the sustainable Development of the resources by integrating the resources available in the existing ENVIS centers network.

First workshop
Enhanced availability of relevant thematic area information through sustainable development network partner. The Institute for Ocean Management, Anna University, Chennai coordinated the Preparatory Workshop for SDNP - ENVIS Partners on October 21, 2005 at Chennai to initiate involvement and work plan for the development of SDNP. Prof.S.Ramachandran, Director and ENVIS Coordinator for ENVIS Centre on Coastal Zone Management and Coastal Shelterbelts (COZMACOSH) shall be coordinating the partnership work with the other partners. The India-Canada Environment Facility (ICEF), sponsoring the ENVIS - SDNP Partnership Project was represented by Dr. Mihir Mitra.
Prof. D. Viswanathan, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University, Chennai inaugurated the Workshop. The   ENVIS - SDNP Partnership Project is being carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. Dr. D. Bandyopadhyay, Director (EI) highlighted the objectives and proposed activities of the Project.

Activities
* Recognise sustainable development network partners in premier institutions/organizations across the country on 15 thematic areas already identified under UNDP Programme.

* Develop new thematic areas(5) and also establish sustainable development network partner on these thematic areas.

* Network 11 ENVIS Nodes identified on spatial platforms using spatial technologies.

* Provide support to 13 ENVIS Nodes for creating databases, putting them on line.

* Conduct two workshops with SDNP Partners

* Prepare a report on similar global scientific networks including Indian network.

* Update the sites and content of the website at http://sdnp.delhi.nic.in

* Publish annual ENVIS Newsletter on subject specific ENVIS Nodes and activities

* Prepare a report on the sustainable development network.
